Ranger Challenge
The Ranger Challenge is an annual competition that demonstrates both individual and team proficiency and stamina in various technical and tactical scenarios. The Ranger Challenge is considered to be the varsity sport for Reserve Officer Training Corps programs. Competitors come from 31 ROTC programs throughout Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas. Seventeen, including A&M - Central Texas, sent coed teams.
The purpose of the Ranger Challenge Program is to:
- Challenge cadets in tough mental and physical competition.
- Enhance leader development.
- Develop team cohesion.
- Develop healthy competition among the battalions.
- Serve as a highly visible and dynamic recruiting and retention vehicle.
- Team results will be used to determine by category Region nominations for future competitive events.
The Ranger Challenge consists of an army physical fitness test, written patrolling exam, land navigation course, disassembly and assembly of an M16A2 rifle, first aid obstacle course, hand grenade assault course and a 10-kilometer road march.
